Extreme Makeover House Makes Debut

HONOLULU -- It was a big night Sunday for Momi Akana and her family as their new home debuted on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

"All I do is cry through the whole thing," Akana said. "Gosh, did I say anything besides 'thank you,' 'beautiful' and 'I love it?'"

In June, Akana's quiet neighborhood became the talk of the town. More than 3,000 volunteers built the home for the Akanas and Keiki O Ka Aina, the nonprofit organization that Akana started in her home 11 years ago. The work that would normally take seven months was compressed into one week.

Akana said she feels so blessed she wants to share her joy with others.

"I want people to come by. Don't feel shame. Sometimes they see me, and they back up and they leave. Come on and see the place, stop and take pictures," she said.
