1884 Old West/RITA Award Winner
Laura Hamilton survived incapacitating childhood illness and isolation, so she's determined to soak up every minute of her tour documenting the success of the transcontinental railroad.
It only makes sense that her over-protective daddy would hire rough, dangerously handsome Sam Duncan as her bodyguard.
Sam protects Laura from danger in the untamed land she's exploring.
But when she discovers her attraction to him, no one can protect Laura from the plans Sam laid for her long before they met.
Susan Kay Law's solid writing and storytelling bring depth to traditional characters of the fictional American West. In Sam's reactions we see the ghost of the Civil War, while Laura squares-off against both their fears, rather than acting the tragic, sheltered miss.
