Stars Turn Out For 'Lost' DVD Party

Cast Members Enjoy Hawaii's Beauty

POSTED: 11:55 am HST August 17, 2005

The sounds of angry monsters and flight attendants warning of turbulence filled the night sky at Turtle Bay Resort Tuesday night. It was all part of the fun for the launching of the ABC television series "Lost" first season on DVD.

Cast members of the hit ABC show gathered for the red carpet event. People who attended the "Lost" DVD release party got lost in the magic.

So what do the cast members like about working Hawaii?

"It's beautiful; it's one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. And we are really lucky to enjoy that," said Emilie de Ravin, who plays Claire.

Naveen Andrews plays Sayid on the show. "Well, again, if I'm not going to say the obvious. It's bloody paradise," he said.

The cast members don't know if or when their character will be killed off. Yunjin Kim plays Sun and hopes her character survives the mysterious monster. However, she said there is a bigger challenge.

"Playing someone who is so traditional. So, I sort of have to think of my mom for my character because nowadays, back in Korea, in 2005, women do not behave that way," Kim said.

"It's rare for any actor, let alone an Asian-American actor, to sink their teeth into material like this and I'm grateful for the opportunity," said Daniel Dae Kim, who plays Jin.

"What I like about playing John Locke is the way they write for him. They write great scenes," Terry O'Quinn said.

"I couldn't stand the cold as a Canadian. And being somewhere tropical, it's been great. It's been a treat. That said, I have had to completely alter my lifestyle. For the first time in my life I've had to take cold showers. A totally new phenomenon for me," said Evangeline Lilly, who plays Kate.

It's rare for a DVD launch to get so much attention, but "Lost" marketers think it'll be one of the year's best sellers.

The DVD will be released on Sept. 6. It will include a behind the scenes look at making the show, a blooper reel and rare deleted scenes. The show's season premiere is on Sept. 21.

"Lost" is the biggest entertainment industry hit on O'ahu since "Magnum P.I." in the 1980s.
