Several Earn 2 American Music Award Nods

Grammy-Sweeper Jones Up For Favorite Pop-Rock Album

Two appears to be the magic number for nominations the 31st annual American Music Awards.

Norah JonesSeveral performers snared no more than two nominations each for the competition, which were announced Wednesday in Los Angeles.

Norah Jones, who swept the Grammys with her album "Come Away With Me" and smash single "Don't Know Why," grabbed AMA nominations for Favorite Female Artist in the adult contemporary category and Favorite Pop-Rock Album.

Taking on Jones for the Pop-Rock Album AMA are Evanescence for "Fallen," Kid Rock for "Cocky" and Justin Timberlake for "Justified."

While Jones was nominated as an artist in the adult contemporary category, she was aced out in pop-rock female artist category. Up for that award are Celine Dion, Avril Lavigne and Jennifer Lopez.

Up for Favorite Male Artist AMA in the Pop-Rock category are "American Idol" runner-up Clay Aiken, Kid Rock, John Mayer and Timberlake.

Other artists grabbing two nominations were R. Kelly, Luther Vandross, Ashanti and Beyonce in the soul-R&B category; Toby Keith, Tim McGraw and Shania Twain in the country category; and Eminem, Sean Paul and Missy Elliott in the rap-hip hop category.

Dion earned two nods as well, the second of which for Favorite Female in the adult contemporary category.

The American Music Awards will be handed out Nov. 16 in Los Angeles. Comedian Jimmy Kimmel will host.

The awards are usually held in January, but producer Dick Clark says the ceremony is being moved up this year.

Most of the major awards shows are rescheduling themselves this year because the Oscars are being held earlier than usual.
