Shimabukuro To Perform With Bette Midler Before Queen

Two Stars With Hawaii Ties Team Up For Charity Event

Local ukulele star Jake Shimabukuro is teaming up with Bette Midler to perform before the queen of England.

The two will perform his arrangement of the Beatles' tune "In My Life."

Shimabukuro said he was in shock when he found out that Midler was a fan of his music and wanted to perform with him.

"When I heard the news I just couldn't believe it. I was pinching myself," Shimabukuro said. "I want to represent Hawaii as best as I can."

Midler invited Shimabukuro to perform with her. The held their first rehearsal last week in California.

Shimabukuro said he has been a big fan of Midler. The Kaimuki High School graduate will team up with Midler, a Radford High School graduate.

This will be his first trip to England.

The annual Royal Variety Performance on Dec. 7 is a benefit for the Entertainment Artistes Fund. The show also stars Michael Buble, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga and Whoopi Goldberg.

Money raised from the event will help maintain a nursing home for retired entertainers.
