Court Asked To Put Student In Kamehameha Schools ImmediatelyPOSTED: 4:05 pm HST August 9,
2005 HONOLULU -- The attorney for the non-Hawaiian boy trying to get into Kamehameha Schools filed a motion in court Tuesday that he hopes will get the boy admitted this school year. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals denied a request Monday that would force the school to accept the boy immediately. Instead, it ruled the Hawaii District Court should hear the request. That cannot happen until the court's decision ruling Kamehameha's admissions policy illegal goes into effect. However, Kamehameha Schools is appealing the decision against its admissions policy."Obviously we feel very strongly that a court needs to consider our motion immediately or as soon as possible so that plaintiff John Doe can attend as much as possible of the upcoming school year," John Doe's attorney, Eric Grant, said.Kamehameha has said it will ask a larger panel of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to review the Aug. 2 ruling. School leaders have previously said they will take the fight to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary. In the meantime, Kamehameha will continue with its current admissions policy. Previous Stories:
