HONOLULU -- Hawaii schools ranked ninth lowest in the nation, a "D-minus," for the state's system of standards and accountability.
The report card done by Education Week magazine graded states on whether they had a clear set of standards for the four core subjects of English, mathematics, science, and social studies.
Hawaii did earn the country's only "A" grade for how equally resources were spread between schools. The study credited Hawaii's statewide education department for fair funding at rural and urban schools.
Hawaii scored in the middle of the nation for school climate, improving teacher quality and adequacy of resources.
