Kamehameha Schools announced Sunday that it is releasing admissions policy changes for two of its campuses.

The announcement comes after the school came under intense criticism last month for admitting a non-Hawaiian student to its Maui campus.

The changes will only apply to the Maui school and the West Hawaii campus.

Officials said they hope this will give students of Hawaiian ancestry a better chance of getting accepted.

The changes affect only the 2003-2004 school year.

The changes include eliminating three things:

  • The $25 application fee
  • The preliminary screening out of applicants during the evaluation process
  • The minimum cut-off when it comes to test scores
