GAME NOTES: Two of the worst teams in the Mid-American Conference will do battle this Friday night when the Toledo Rockets host the Miami-Ohio RedHawks at the Glass Bowl. The RedHawks have endured a terrible run this season, as the team has lost eight of its 10 games, including three in a row. The last time Miami-Ohio was on the field the team was defeated by Ball State, 31-16. After this contest the RedHawks will close out their season at home against Ohio. As for the Rockets, they are also struggling this year, as the team has lost eight games thus far, including four straight. The last time Toledo was on the field the team suffered a 27-17 setback to Western Michigan. In terms of the all-time series between the two schools on the gridiron, the RedHawks have a slim, 27-20-1 edge over the Rockets. However, the Rockets got the better of Miami in the most recent meeting, as Toledo won by a 35-27 margin.

Offensively, this RedHawks squad has done very little right, as the team is posting just 326.5 total ypg, and that has led to 18.1 ppg. The team has been down right abysmal on the ground, rushing for just 112.0 ypg and 10 scores on 3.4 ypc. Thomas Merriweather has been the main option out of the backfield, as the tailback has rushed for 547 yards and four TDs. Unfortunately the passing attack has been just as bad, as Daniel Raudabaugh has thrown for just 1,506 yards and five touchdowns against five interceptions. The offensive woes for Miami continued in the team's recent setback to Toledo, as the RedHawks tallied just 330 yards, including just 76 rushing yards on 2.9 ypc. Raudabaugh was the lone bright spot in the loss, as the quarterback threw for 254 yards and one score for Miami.

On top of the poor offensive play, the defense has also struggled, surrendering 371.4 total ypg, which has led to 30.1 ppg. The main problem for the RedHawks has been their inability to stop the run, as opponents are pounding Miami for 179.7 ypg on the ground and have also posted 21 rushing TDs. The unit has also had trouble making many big plays, forcing just 12 turnovers on the year, while collecting a mere 11 sacks. In the recent setback to Ball State the defense was once again abused, as the Cardinals terrorized Miami for 484 total yards. The defense has no answer for BSU's ground game, allowing the Cardinals to rush for 195 yards and three touchdowns.

Much like their counterpart, the Rockets have been inconsistent offensively and head into this contest averaging just 326.6 total ypg, and that has led to a lackluster 22.2 ppg. DaJuane Collins and Morgan Williams have combined for 1,052 yards out of the backfield, and have also collected eight touchdowns. The passing attack has been led by Aaron Opelt, and while his numbers are not mind-blowing, the quarterback has done a commendable job. Opelt has completed 62.2 percent of his throws on the year for 1,757 yards and 11 scores. Stephen Williams has been the top target for Opelt, as the wideout has 61 receptions for 621 yards and seven scores. The last time Toledo was on the field, the team posted a mediocre 358 total yards, but still fell to Western Michigan by 10 points. Williams and Collins combined for 151 yards on 32 carries, while Opelt threw for 213 yards and one score. Nick Moore hauled in 10 passes for 97 yards, while Williams collected six receptions for 94 yards and one score.

The Rockets have not done well on the defensive side of the football either, as the squad is currently being abused for 377.9 total ypg, and that has led to 33.1 ppg. The main problem for this unit has come against the run, as teams are gashing the Rockets front line for 180.6 ypg, and out of the 36 touchdowns allowed by Toledo's defense, 20 have come on the ground. Collecting big plays has also been tough for Toledo, as the team comes into this matchup with just 11 takeaways and eight sacks. In the loss to WMU, the defense allowed 371 total yards, but surprisingly the majority of the damage came from the pass, as the Broncos torched Toledo for 225 yards and three touchdowns through the air. Daris Quinn led the way with 11 tackles in the contest, while Barry Church added 10 stops.

Miami and Toledo come into this game just hoping for another win. Both teams are riding losing streaks and would like to try to build momentum for next season. Unfortunately for Miami, the Rockets have a better offense and should be able to grab a win at home.
