NCAA Game Summary - Virginia Commonwealth At Western Michigan

Kalamazoo, MI -- (Sports Network) - Martelle McLemore tallied a game-high 22 points to go along with nine rebounds, leading the Western Michigan Broncos to an 83-67 triumph over the Virginia Commonwealth Rams in a non-league contest at University Arena. David Kool added 17 points and nine boards for WMU (1-1), while Donald Lawson notched a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. Bradford Burgess paced the Rams (1-1) with 16 points, though he shot just 3- of-11 from the floor. Brandon Rozzell scored 12 off the bench, and Jay Gavin contributed 10 points in a losing effort. Burgess scored 14 of his points in the first half, leading VCU to a 42-35 lead at the break. But WMU took control by shooting 60.7 percent from the floor in the second stanza, while VCU went 1-of-14 from beyond the arc. The Broncos hit just 2-of-15 threes for the game, though they held a 52-37 rebounding advantage and out-scored the Rams in the paint, 48-26.
