NCAA Game Summary - Ball State At Western Michigan

Kalamazoo, MI -- (Sports Network) - Shawntes Gary scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Western Michigan Broncos to an 84-82 overtime win against the Ball State Cardinals in Mid-American Conference action at University Arena. David Kool added 22 points for WMU (10-19, 7-8 MAC) while Flenard Whitfield chipped in with 13 points. Michael Redell ran the show for the Broncos, tallying 11 points and nine assists. Jarrod Jones led the way for the Cardinals (13-15, 7-8), scoring 20 points, while Brandon Lampley and Maurice Hubbard netted 19 and 14 points, respectively. Laron Frazier and Rob Giles also added 11 points apiece. WMU took control in the first half, shooting 51.9 percent from the floor, to grab a commanding 38-24 lead at the break. BSU stormed back in the second stanza, knocking down 57.6 percent of its shots from the floor. However a jumper by Kool, with one second remaining, sent the game into overtime tied at 71-71. WMU took control of the overtime period, knocking down 6-of-10 free throws, en route to the two-point victory. Three-point shooting proved to be the difference in the contest as WMU outscored BSU 30-15 from long distance.
