NCAA Game Summary - Oregon State At Texas-El Paso

(Sports Network) - Stefon Jackson poured in 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Texas-El Paso past Oregon State, 70-63, to knot the best- of-three College Basketball Invitational championship series.

The third and decisive game will take place on Friday, again in El Paso.

Randy Culpepper added 17 points for the Miners (23-13), who have won four of their last five games. Arnett Moultrie added 12 points and 11 boards in the win. Julyan Stone finished with seven points and eight assists.

Roeland Schaftnaar poured in 17 points for the Beavers (17-18), who saw their four-game winning streak halted. Calvin Haynes notched 10 points, while Seth Tarver gave eight points and 15 boards.

The score stayed close in the first half, but six straight points from Omari Johnson late in the stanza helped give OSU a 35-30 lead at the break.

Culpepper's layup closed out an 8-0 UTEP run that gave the Miners a 38-37 lead early in the second half.

The lead seesawed from there, until Daniel Deane's jumper knotted it at 46 with 9:41 left in the game.

Jackson, though, poured in six straight points and Culpepper added a layup to give the Miners a 54-46 lead with about 7 1/2 minutes left.

Oregon State battled back and eventually two free throws from Tarver cut it to 56-55 with about five minutes left.

Gabriel McCulley answered with a layup, Jackson had a pair of jumpers and Stone hit a free throw to make it 63-55 with 2:05 showing on the clock.

The Beavers managed to cut it to 65-63 late in the game on a Haynes layup, but failed to score any more points from there.

Game Notes:

OSU shot 43.6 percent from the field, while UTEP hit at a 43.4 percent clip...With the win, UTEP evened the all-time series at 2-2...The Miners have a 13-4 mark at home this year.
