No. 22 Hurricanes Top Hatters

(Sports Network) - Cyrus McGowan scored 14 points and added eight rebounds as the 22nd-ranked Miami-Florida Hurricanes downed the Stetson Hatters, 79-65, at BankUnited Center.

Dwayne Collins had 12 points and seven rebounds while Jack McClinton added 12 points and six assists for the Hurricanes (4-1), whose lone loss came against UConn last Sunday.

Garfield Blair had a game-high 25 points and added seven rebounds for the Hatters (2-3), who have dropped two of their last three games. Kris Thomas added 14 points in the loss.

With the score tied early in the first half, Miami went on a 9-0 run to take a 20-11 lead on James Dews' three-pointer with about 11 minutes to play in the opening half.

Stetson answered with a three-ball and a pair of free throws, but the Hurricanes countered with 10 straight points to take a 30-16 lead on Brian Asbury's jumper.

After 20 minutes of play, Miami held a 39-27 lead.

Still holding a 12-point lead, the Hurricanes scored nine straight points and Dews' three-ball with a bit over 12 minutes to play made it a 59-38 game.

The Hatters tried to cut into their deficit, but the Hurricanes were able to hold a comfortable lead for the remainder of the game.

Game Notes

The Hurricanes own a 46-33 series lead over Stetson...The Hurricanes host Ohio State on Tuesday...Dews finished the game with 10 points...Miami shot 45.8 percent in the game compared to 33.8 percent for Stetson.
