(Sports Network) - Mike Hornbuckle led six double-figure scorers with 25 points, as the sixth-seeded Pepperdine Waves outlasted the seventh-seeded San Francisco Dons, 93-85, in the first round of the 2009 West Coast Conference Tournament.

Hornbuckle went 8-of-11 from the floor and 5-of-6 from three-point range for Pepperdine (9-22), which will battle the University of Portland in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Keion Bell had a big night with 19 points and seven boards, and Mychel Thompson posted 12 points and five rebounds. Lorne Jackson had 11 points, while Taylor Darby and Corbin Moore chipped in with 10 points apiece.

For USF (11-19), Dior Lowhorn led the way with a career-high 32 points and seven boards. Kwame Vaughn tallied 18 points, and Blake Wallace added 13 points and nine rebounds in the losing effort.

The Waves shot a sizzling 59.4 percent from the floor, including 7-of-11 from long range, in the opening period and they held a 48-47 edge at intermission.

With a 21-of-26 effort at the foul line in the second frame, Pepperdine was able to secure the eight-point win.

On the night, Pepperdine knocked down 49.2 percent of its attempts from the floor, 9-of-18 from downtown and 24-of-29 at charity stripe.
