GAME NOTES: The Oregon Ducks and the University of Portland Pilots are slated to square off in a non-conference state rivalry.

Ernie Kent's Oregon team is coming off a horrendous 2008-09 season that saw the Ducks sink to the Pac-10 basement. They finished 8-23 overall, including a woeful 2-16 in the league. Fortunately for the Ducks, no major contributors are gone from that team, and many of the young players who were forced into action a year ago figure to be much improved. So far this season, Oregon is 3-0, and the most recent win was a 68-55 decision over Colorado State on Sunday in the BTI Tip-Off Tournament.

As for Portland, it has yet to face an opponent that is on Oregon's level. After beating Eastern Washington by six points in the opener, the Pilots cruised past Seattle on Tuesday by a 98-81 final.

The Ducks own a commanding 49-9 series advantage over Portland, including a 79-76 overtime victory over the Pilots last season.

Oregon has been completely dominant through three games, as the squad is scoring 85.7 ppg while limiting opponents to 54.0 ppg on 35.6 percent shooting from the field. Tajuan Porter is the leading scorer for the Ducks, as he is netting 18.7 ppg on 51.2 percent shooting from the floor, including 42.3 percent from three-point range. Teondre Williams provides 13.7 ppg, and LeKendric Longmire checks in with 11.0 ppg. The Ducks have been tremendous on the boards, as they are pulling down 19.4 rpg more than the opposition. In the 13-point win over Colorado State last time out, Porter scored 23 points. Williams and Longmire both had 11 points, and Joevan Carton provided 10 points and nine rebounds. The Ducks forced 19 turnovers and limited the Rams to 36.2 percent shooting from the floor.

Portland is scoring 81.0 ppg this season while allowing 69.5 ppg to the opposition. The Pilots have four players averaging double figures in scoring this season, and T.J. Campbell is tops on the list with 18.0 ppg on 64.3 percent shooting from the field. He has dished out 15 assists in the two outings, proof of his play-making ability. Nik Raivio provides 16.5 ppg and 9.5 rpg, while Robin Smeulders checks in with 13.0 ppg. Rounding out the foursome is Luke Sikma with 11.0 ppg and 10.5 rpg. In the most recent victory over Seattle, Smeulders posted 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field. Campbell provided 21 points and 11 assists, while Raivio scored 17 points while ripping down 10 rebounds. As for Jared Stohl, he contributed 14 points off the bench for the Pilots, who connected on 55.0 percent of their field goal attempts and shot 25-of-31 from the foul line.

Don't expect a blowout, but Oregon will win the game. Portland has plenty of talent and experience, and those two factors will enable the Pilots to keep things close.

Predicted Outcome
