William & Mary (1-2) At Manhattan (1-1)
GAME NOTES: The Manhattan Jaspers return to Draddy Gym today to entertain the William & Mary Tribe in non-conference play.
The Jaspers have played just one game at home thus far and that resulted in a 70-58 win over NJIT to open the season a week ago. Manhattan returned to the court on Wednesday, but fell short against Princeton, 61-54, in its first road outing of the campaign.
On the flip side, W&M is coming off its first victory of the season, a 78-71 besting of Richmond in its home opener on Thursday. The Tribe began the season with a pair of road games, dropping a 75-66 decision at nationally-ranked UConn and a wild 87-85 triple-overtime result at Harvard.
The all-time series between these two schools is led by Manhattan, 2-1, as the Jaspers defeated the Tribe, 54-39, last season.
W&M made good on 51.0 percent of its attempts from the floor and 10-of-22 from three-point distance, as it outlasted Richmond, 78-71, on Thursday. The Tribe put the game away at the foul line as well, converting all 16 of its free throws in the second half. David Schneider headed the charge, as he poured in 25 points and grabbed six boards, while going 4-of-10 from downtown and 7-of-8 at the charity stripe. He is now averaging a team-high 19.0 ppg through the first three games of the campaign.
The Jaspers held a 34-31 lead at the break, but were outscored 16-3 at the foul line over the final 20 minutes of what ended up being a 61-54 loss at Princeton on Wednesday. Manhattan shot 41.3 percent from the floor and held Princeton just a 39.6 percent effort to keep things close though, it couldn't hang onto the halftime lead. Darryl Crawford guided the team in defeat with a double-double that consisted of 14 points and 10 rebounds. He also led the Jaspers in the season opener, posting 17 points and nine boards against NJIT. Rico Pickett also finished with 14 points last game, while Laurence Jolicoeur added 13 points and six boards to the losing effort.
W&M has been competitive, even on the road, and it has a few more potent scorers that should help it nip Manhattan today.
