NCAA Game Summary - Fairfield Vs. Manhattan

(Sports Network) - Yorel Hawkins registered a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds to help lead the Fairfield Stags to a 68-61 win over the Manhattan Jaspers in the quarterfinals of the 28th annual Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament at the Times Union Center.

Mike Evanovich accounted for 18 points for the fifth-seeded Stags (17-14), followed by Herbie Allen and Greg Nero with 17 and 11 points, respectively.

The fourth-seeded Jaspers (16-14) were led by Darryl Crawford with his game- high 21 points on 11-of-15 shooting at the free-throw line. Chris Smith tacked on 14 points and eight rebounds, but shot only 5-of-15 from the floor and 1- of-7 beyond the arc.

Fairfield converted a total of just nine field goals in the first half, hitting a mere 2-of-8 behind the three-point line, yet managed to grab a one- point lead at the break, 25-24.

In the second half the Stags pulled away with an impressive 60-percent effort from the floor and 12-of-17 at the free-throw line in the seven-point decision.

Manhattan hurt itself with 13 turnovers and just 18-of-31 shooting at the charity stripe on the afternoon.

The Stags will now face off against the Siena Saints on Sunday in the semifinals for the right to challenge for the crown on Monday.
