POSTED: 6:42 pm HST February 27, 2009

(Sports Network) - Scott Vandermeer recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 17 rebounds to help lead the Illinois-Chicago Flames to a 62-58 win against the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers in Horizon League play at the Gentile Center.

Rob Eppinger converted all eight of his field goal attempts for the Flames (15-14, 7-11 HL), coming up with a team-best 16 points as the team finished off the regular season slate with fourth straight wins. Josh Mayo and Robo Kreps tacked on 13 and 10 points, respectively.

The Ramblers (14-17, 6-12), losers of two straight, were paced by J.R. Blount with 16 points, Justin Cerasoli 13 and seven assists, followed by Darrin Williams with 12 points and seven rebounds in the setback.

Loyola made a mere five field goals in the first half, including 2-of-12 behind the three-point line, as the home team trailed by double digits at the break, 31-20.

In the second half the Ramblers closed the gap with 47.1 percent shooting from the floor, but after cutting the deficit to two points with under a minute to play on a three-pointer by Marcus Thomas, Loyola could not complete the comeback bid after Mayo knocked down a pair of free throws in the final seconds of the four-point decision.

UIC took care of the Ramblers on the glass, 40-29, in order to overcome 17 turnovers on the road.
