Louisville, KY -- (Sports Network) - Rashad Reed knocked down a floater with just two-tenths of a second remaining to give the Indiana State Sycamores a stunning 68-66 win over the Lamar Cardinals as part of the Marques Maybin Classic at Freedom Hall. Reed finished with 15 points for the Sycamores (1-6) as they picked up their first win of the 2008-09 campaign. Also scoring in double figures for Indiana State were Aaron Carter and Jay Tunnell with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Although he posted just three points, Tyler Cutter contributed with a game- high eight assists. The Cardinals (6-2), losers of two of their last three after beginning the season with five consecutive victories, were led by Jay Brown and his game- high 16 points in addition to his eight rebounds. Kenny Dawkins, who added 13 points, shot a mere 1-of-9 beyond the arc and 4-of-16 from the field overall. Indiana State moved out to a 9-2 lead in the first half, but even though the squad connected on 56.5 percent from the field and 6-of-7 out on the perimeter, it had to settle for a 40-40 tie at the break. In the second half Lamar began with a 10-2 run, but in the end the Cardinals could not survive 0-of-8 shooting behind the three-point line in the frame as Reed played the hero for the Sycamores. The Cardinals ended the game a perfect 18-of-18 at the free-throw line and generated 22 points off 17 Indiana State turnovers yet could not survive a mere 4-of-22 from beyond the arc Both teams will be back in action once again on Monday as the Cardinals face Louisville and Indiana State squares off versus Ohio University.
