GAME NOTES: The Indiana State Sycamores and the Lamar Cardinals will collide this evening as part of the Marques Maybin Classic, a round-robin tournament hosted by Louisville. Indiana State faced the host team last night, and the result of that clash was an 83-43 defeat. The Sycamores are now winless in six games this season, although four of their defeats have come by narrow margins. Lamar has enjoyed much more success thus far, as the club has won six of its first seven outings. Yesterday, the Cardinals began this event with a 76-67 triumph over Ohio University. The only loss to date came against Kentucky on the road. Indiana State and Lamar split their only two previous meetings.

Rashad Reed is the top offensive performer for Indiana State this season, as he is scoring 12.5 ppg on the strength of his 44.1 percent shooting from three-point range. The only other double-digit scorer on the roster is Jay Tunnell, who is netting 11.2 ppg. The Sycamores are only generating 62.7 ppg on 39.1 percent shooting from the floor, and the lack of offensive production has been the most obvious reason for the 0-6 start to this campaign. ISU was grossly overmatched in last night's beating at the hands of Louisville. The Sycamores turned the ball over 23 times and shot a lowly 14-of-50 from the floor, including 3-of-18 from three-point range. Not a single player reached double figures in scoring for Indiana State, which allowed Louisville to shoot a solid 48.3 percent from the field.

Lamar has four players on its roster that are averaging double figures in scoring. Kenny Dawkins is tops with 16.4 ppg, and he also leads the team with 3.9 apg and 17 steals. Brandon McThay checks in with 15.1 ppg, and Jay Brown is contributing 13.2 ppg and 9.3 rpg. Rounding out the group is Tristan Worrell with his 11.6 ppg. The Cardinals are generating 77.0 ppg while allowing 66.4 ppg to the opposition. In the victory over Ohio yesterday, Worrell hit 8-of-9 shots from the floor en route to 21 points. Dawkins pitched in 19, while McThay contributed 18. Brown ripped down 12 boards for Lamar, which earned a decisive 40-27 rebounding advantage.

The Cardinals will win again tonight, keeping the Sycamores winless. Expect Lamar to pull away in the second half.
