(Sports Network) - Jonathan Gibson scored 22 points to lead the New Mexico State Aggies to an 80-70 victory over the Boise State Broncos in the quarterfinals of the Western Athletic Conference at the Lawlor Events Center.

Jahmar Young and Hernst Laroche added 16 points apiece for NMSU (17-14), while Wendell McKines tallied a double-double consisting of 12 points and 13 rebounds.

The fifth-seeded Aggies advanced to the semifinals on Friday and will face top-seeded Utah State.

Mark Sanchez led the way for Boise State (19-12) with a double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds, while Anthony Thomas and La'Shard Anderson contributed 18 and 11 points, respectively.

Even though the Broncos shot 47.8 percent from the field, including a 6-of-10 clip from long range, the Aggies went into the break with a 38-36 advantage, thanks to a 16-of-37 showing from the floor in the first 20 minutes of play.

New Mexico State turned to its defensive play in the second stanza, as the Aggies held Boise State to a meager 36.7 percent shooting effort, en route to the 10-point victory.

The Aggies scored 18 points off 18 Boise State turnovers, while the Broncos tallied just 11 points off nine New Mexico State miscues.
