    36-year-old man dies after slamming his moped into a pickup truck

    WAIANAE - A 36-year-old man’s dies overnight after slamming his moped into a pickup truck.

    The crash happened just after 7:30 Thursday night on Farrington Highway between Moua and Upena street. Police say a 41-year old man was heading westbound on the highway when he slowed his truck to back in to his driveway. The moped rider behind him tried to slow down, lost control and slid into the back of the truck. Paramedics took the rider to a hospital where he died.

    Wellness Wednesday has some sleep tips with Dr. Shanon Makekau, Chief of Pulmonary and Sleep at Kaiser Permanente Hawaii.  Adults who get less than the recommended 7-9 hours of continuous sleep per night are at a higher risk for obesity, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, depression, anxiety, and a weakened immune system. Lack of sleep can also be harmful to your everyday life when it begins to affect your driving, cognitive skills, memory and mood.

    Safeway staff handed Tiana M. a check for one million dollars on Sunday after playing Safeway's monopoly collect & win game. Tiana is the game's first million dollar winner from Hawaii. The star-advertiser reports the 29-year-old won by entering game ticket codes into a last chance drawing online, beating about 135 million other players across the country.

    HAWAII - Thanks to donations from various agencies Hawaii island will soon be getting a mobile hygiene unit. The unit will provide three hot water showers and restrooms for those affected by the eruption.

    Hawaii is getting money to help homeless veterans

    HAWAII - Hawaii is getting more than $600,000 to help homeless veterans get back in the workforce.

    US Senator Brian Schatz announced Wednesday, that the US Department of Labor awarded this funding to the US Vets and Catholic Charities Hawaii. He says it will help veterans translate their skills from military service to the civilian workforce that includes job skills training, on-the-job training, and job search and placement assistance. 

    HAWAII - Hawaii is getting more than $600,000 to help homeless veterans get back in the workforce.
