    Hanalei Bison Ranch still missing up to 20 bison that were washed away in flood waters over the weekend. A spokesperson from the ranch told Island News Thursday they've counted up to 80 bison back on their 160-acre ranch. One bison that was rescued died after suffering a leg injury.     Napali Coast State Wilderness Park, including the Kalalau Trail, as well as Haena State Park remain closed due to flood damage and access being blocked on Kuhio Highway due to landslides.  The State Department of Land and Natural Resources say the closure's expected to last a while.  Parts of Wailua River State Park and Polihale State Park are also still closed due to damage and flooding.

    Hanalei Elementary School remained closed Wednesday as staff members continued clean up efforts. The Hawaii Department of Education said it expects classes to resume Thursday, April 19th. Bus service remains suspended for students living in Waikomo, Wainiha, and Haena until Kuhio Highway is reopened. Normal service resumed for students living in Hanalei who attend Kapaa middle and high schools.

    The stories of hope on Kauai not only limited to rescuing each other but also for the animals. Valentina McKellar-Nash says a displaced duck showed up on her front porch in Kapaa on Monday. She fed it and even gave it some water. She says it usually hangs out with three other ducks about a mile away.

    Kauai County got 27 inches of rain through the weekend causing massive floods, which left some people stranded. Coast Guard helicopters flew in from Oahu to rescue two stranded hikers. Roadways were impassable. Many homes, businesses, and communities were cut-off because of all the rain. Dozens of homes are damaged. About 40 people, mostly tourists were left stranded at a Red Cross Evacuation Shelter which at one point, ran out of food and water.

    Governor David Ige issued an emergency proclamation Tuesday declaring Hanalei on Kauai a disaster area after heavy rains caused landslides along Kuhio Highway February 23 through March 22nd. The landslides blocked the highway cutting off the Haena and Wainiha communities from the rest of the island. The proclamation expedites work to prevent future landslides by making state funds available.
