    RIMPAC military exercises is closing Bellows Beach Park and its campgrounds Friday through Monday. It's normally closed to the public on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  Camping will still be available at other nearby campgrounds, including Waimanalo Beach Park and Waimanalo Bay beach Park, also known as Sherwoods.

    WAIANAE - A 36-year-old man’s dies overnight after slamming his moped into a pickup truck. The crash happened just after 7:30 Thursday night on Farrington Highway between Moua and Upena street. Police say a 41-year old man was heading westbound on the highway when he slowed his truck to back in to his driveway. The moped rider behind him tried to slow down, lost control and slid into the back of the truck. Paramedics took the rider to a hospital where he later died. ...

    A Maui Police captain resigns following sexual assault accusations after serving for 27 years. Stephen Orikasa turned in his gun and badge last Friday, but the allegations against him date back to June of 2017. Court documents say Orikasa had sexual contact with a woman over the age of 20 without her consent. He did plead not guilty to the sexual assault charges last November. Orikasa's change of plea hearing will take place the week of July 23rd.

    Honolulu Police have found the vehicle involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash in Kunia on July 10th. Thanks to an anonymous tip, the Ford F-150 truck with damages consistent with debris found at the scene was located on July 14th. No word yet whether the driver was located. A motorist found the body of 49-year-old Meechok Chanphut of Kunia on the side of the road.

    A juvenile whale shark with heavy gauge line wrapped around its mid-section was spotted a second time this week. Initial reports of the entangled whale shark were received on Sunday off Olowalu and then on Thursday several commercial snorkel/dive tour companies reported the shark on the backside of Molokini, off Maui's south shore.   Based on photographs, provided by ProDivers, the entanglement represents a tight wrap around the whale shark's body forward of its pectoral fins.     One of Hawaii's most well known Hawaiian monk seals is pregnant again and due around July 15. Rocky became a sensation after giving birth on popular Kaimana Beach last year. She's had 10 pups already and 9 were birthed on a remote beach in Kauai. Last year baby Kaimana, named after the beach, came as a complete surprise to spectators and this year's location may come as a surprise as well.
