Cologne, Germany -- (Sports Network) - Toyota's Timo Glock will not compete in this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix due to injuries he sustained during qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix earlier this month.

Glock, 27, was initially diagnosed with only a minor cut to his leg following his accident at Suzuka, but Toyota said on Sunday that subsequent medical checks in Germany have revealed a cracked vertebra. Doctors have therefore ruled Glock out from participating in Brazil.

Toyota will replace Glock with reserve driver Kamui Kobayashi in the penultimate race of the 2009 Formula One season. Kobayashi, 23, is the reigning GP2 Asia champion and has been Toyota's third driver since the beginning of 2008.

Glock did not start in the Japanese GP. The German went off course and slammed hard into the tire barrier during the second segment of qualifying. He complained of back pain after the accident, but initial x-rays showed no damage. Toyota requested that Kobayashi serve as replacement driver, but race stewards prohibited the change since an F1 rule requires a driver to participate in at least one practice session on the second day of the event if he is to race.

The team is uncertain of Glock's return for the November 1 season-finale in Abu Dhabi.
