Unknown Amount Of Wastewater Released Sunday Morning
The State Department of Health is warning the public to stay out of the waters near Sand Island after waste water spilled in the area this morning.
It happened at the drawbridge section of Sand Island Access Road, near the military training facility.
Military crews responded to the break at around 11:30 and had stopped the flow of wastewater into the ocean about an hour later.
Waters from Keehi Lagoon Park to Sand Island State Park are affected by the discharge.
This includes the boat ramp areas of both parks.
Officials estimate that about 15,000 gallons of wastewater was released.
Signs have been posted in the area to warn the public of the release. The cause is under investigation.
