KITV 4 News reporter Denby Fawcett was featured on NBC's "Today" show Wednesday morning, talking about a book she co-authored with other women who covered the Vietnam War.

Many know Fawcett as KITV 4's government reporter. However, many may not realize Denby is also an author.

As a 24-year-old newspaper reporter she covered the war in Vietnam. She and other women war correspondents have written a book about their experiences.

Denby and co-author Laura Palmer talked about why they went to Vietnam.

"It was the story of our era. It what was happening to my generation," Denby said.

"What made you willing to take the risk?" NBC anchor Ann Curie asked.

"I think when you're that age you don't think of the depth of the risk. You just think 'I want to be there.' You want to see it want to be a part of it. I don't think any of us were prepared for what we'd see when we got there. It was like going into a sea of darkness and after begging to go there you couldn't say 'No I want to get off this ship traveling in a sea,'" Denby said.

They talked about how it affected them.

"It changed my life. It was the pivotal moment in my life and I think in all of our lives. It made me a more serious person, a more centered person, more grave, I suppose," Denby said.

The book is "War Torn: Women Reporters Who Covered Vietnam." It is in bookstores now.
