Major crimes on Oahu last year dropped for the eighth time in the last nine years, according to the Honolulu Police Department's annual report.
There were more than 34,000 so-called index crimes reported in 2010, HPD said. That is a drop of 4.72 percent from 2009 and a 40 percent reduction since 2002.
Crime has dropped every year since 2002 except last year when it jumped a little over 2008.
Violent crimes, which include murder, robbery, rape and aggravated assault, rose about a half percent last year.
Property crime, which includes auto theft, burglary and larceny theft, dropped a little more than 5 percent.
