A Hawaii Kai neighborhood is on edge because of a crumbling mountainside above their homes.

Although engineers have checked out the area, residents said they are concerned that nothing is been done to preserve their safety.

If you look closely at Koko Crater you will find a lighter colored area where boulders sit precariously on a ledge. Recent storms have also eroded part of the mountainside, leaving a huge boulder exposed.

"When it rains, you can hear. It sounds like sand coming down the mountain," Hawaii Kai resident Tommy Kidani said.

"You never know where something's going to fall. So, any of these houses along here are in jeopardy," Hawaii Kai resident Mary Pang said.

"We all worry about it and never know when a small quake might loosen the rocks," Hawaii Kai resident Betty Lee said. "We're all a little bit leery."

Especially after a rockslide a few months ago that shook the neighborhood.

"It was a big loud noise. Everybody was up the next morning to see what happened," Lee said.

"The mountain's crumbling and it has a big crash like a few months ago, and that was kind of spooky because it happened early in the morning," Kidani said.

City officials said the mountainside was surveyed and found to be stable. However, that has not completely satisfied this community.
