Kauai To Hold Meeting For Water Rate Increase

Several community meetings have been scheduled by the Kauai Department of Water to discuss a proposed rate increase.

The meetings are scheduled at the following locations:

Tuesday, Nov. 29 - L?hu?e Neighborhood Center Wednesday, Nov. 30 - Kal?heo Neighborhood Center Monday, Dec. 1 - Kapa?a Neighborhood Center Tuesday, Dec. 6 - Hale Halawai in Hanalei

All of the meetings are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and are open to the public.

The Dept. of Water will present information gathered while studying the island's water system for over a year.

The proposed rate increase under consideration ranges from 7.5 percent to 11.2 percent per year for four years, with agricultural use being held at half the general use rate. If approved, it would be implemented at the beginning of 2012.
