A three-car crash on Kauai left a 14-month-old girl who was sitting on a driver's lap dead, Kauai County officials said.

It happened at about 2 p.m. Sunday at the junction of Kaumualii Highway and Kalepa Street near Kukui Grove Center.

A Nissan Pathfinder was traveling eastbound on the highway.

The driver of the Nissan was Michael Pagelsdorf Jr., 28, of Puhi. He rear-ended the vehicle in front unaware the vehicles ahead were coming to a stop, police said.

County officials on Monday identified the victim as Kaylie Pagelsdorf.

Michael Pagelsdorf and Kaylie's 2-year-old sister and 5-year-old brother in the sport utility vehicle were not hurt.

Kauai police arrested Michael Pagelsdorf on a charge of manslaughter on Sunday night. He was released pending further investigation.
