A California man was airlifted Wednesday afternoon after sustaining injuries during a hike along the Kalalau Trail, according to Kauai officials.

The man, age 52, was hiking into Kalalau Beach when he fell and injured his left knee and ankle.

Dispatch received the distress call at around 11:30 a.m.

Rescue 3 personnel aboard Air 1 flew into the area and walked roughly 100 yards to assist the hiker to the aircraft.

He was flown to Princeville Airport where awaiting medics transported the patient to Wilcox Hospital for treatment.
