A fireworks explosion sent a Waipahu man to the hospital Wednesday.
Neighbors who live on Hianakiu Street said they heard what sounded like a gunshot Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency crews said a man called 911 for help after his left hand was blown off during a blast.
Police said it appeared the man was working with sparklers to make a homemade bomb when the blast occured.
The 27-year-old man is in guarded condition at the Queen's Medical Center.
