The Hawaii Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that the new election maps for the state of Hawaii are unconstitutional.
The court ordered the Hawaii Reapportionment Commission to draw up new maps that conform with state law.
The court said the commission violated the state constitution by including non-permanent residents in the population base.
Several Big Island residents sued the state saying Hawaii County was denied a fourth seat in the state Senate because of flawed maps approved by the commission last year.
