A Hawaiian Airlines flight bound for Honolulu mistakenly entered a runway where a cargo plane was landing Wednesday night in Kansai, Japan, aviation officials said.
Japanese aviation officials tell the Aviation Herald that All Nippon Airways 767 was on final descent when the control tower realized the Hawaiian Airlines plane was on the runway. The ANA pilot was told to abort the landing until Hawaiian Airlines flight 450 could taxi off the runway.
The cargo jet safely landed a few minutes later.
Japan's Transportation Safety Board rated the occurrence a "serious incident" and has sent three investigators to the site.
Hawaiian Airlines flight 450 left Kansai airport several minutes after the incident, and arrived at Honolulu International Airport just before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday because of the time difference and international date line.
