An injured hiker from Anchorage, Alaska was airlifted from Nonou Mountain, also known as "The Sleeping Giant," Monday afternoon, according to Kauai County officials.
The 38-year-old man was hiking with his wife on the trail near mile marker 1.5 at around 11:35 a.m. when he hurt his ankle.
Four fire personnel from the Kapaa station responded to the call and three of them hiked up to where the injured man and his wife were waiting.
Shortly after their arrival at the scene, Rescue 3 and Air 1 airlifted the injured hiker to the Wailua Houselots Park where awaiting medics then transported him to Wilcox Hospital.
