Fashion Show Sends Important Message About Domestic Violence
Fun Event For Young women Also Provided Important Message Against Dating Violence
A fun event for young women also provided an important message against domestic violence.
Models chosen from Oahu high schools strutted the latest prom fashions down the runway at the Plaza Club Sunday. The event, "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" invited girls of all ages to shop but also get information on dating violence.
A mother of two gave words of encouragement and told her story of surviving years of domestic abuse.
"Remember that you have the power even when you feel powerless, you are strong even when you feel weak, you are beautiful when you can't even bring yourself to look in the mirror and you are worthy of love and deserve respect," says domestic abuse survivor Ashley Jury.
"If we start with the young teenagers, we tell them there is no tolerance or violence they will understand," says event chair Kari Leong. "There is no reason to stay in an unhealthy relationship."
The event raised money for the Domestic Violence Action Center.
