Former University of Hawaii head football coach Dick Tomey is rejoining the Warriors, KITV4 Sports confirmed.

Tomey will replace special teams coordinator and secondary coach Chris Tormey, who accepted a job with Washington State.

Tomey, 72, has 46 years of coaching experience, including 63 wins leading UH for 10 seasons from 1977-1986.

Tomey logged 14 years leading Arizona. He was the Pacific Athletic Conference-10 coach of the year in 1992 and won a PAC-10 championship in 1993.

From 2005 to 2009, Tomey was head coach at San Jose State. His career record as a head coach is 183-145-7.

UH head coach Greg McMackin made the announcement on Thursday.

"Dick's record speaks for itself. He was a great leader as the head football coach at the University of Hawaii, University of Arizona, and San Jose State," McMackin said.

The two coaches worked together at the San Francisco 49ers.

"I'm thrilled to get the opportunity to join Coach Mack's staff,? Tomey said. ?I've admired the players and the coaches and what they accomplished last year. I'm excited to get the chance to help this team, but with that said, I have a lot to learn. I know a lot of the coaches and the players but you need to have conversations with the guys to get to know them better. I have a lot of player's names to learn, what they do, and how they do it. But I'm excited and can't wait to get started.?
